Product Description The Centofante III is thin profiled and has a lightweight FRN handle. It has two channels that are furrowed out of the handle for better grip. The VG-10 blade has both a hollow-grind and wedge-grind with non-sharpened spine serrations. It also has a black steel pocket clip positions for tip-up/down, right-hand carry.

Ideal every day carry knife July 14, 2010 Richard M. Afflitto (Pompton Plains, NJ United States) I purchased this knife over a year ago for camping and every day carry. It has not disappointed. This knife is the perfect size, large enough for every job I throw at it yet not heavy/bulky. The steel is amazing. It keeps a sharp edge for a long time and can be sharpened to razor sharpness if that is your desire. Personally I like the shape of the blade on the Centofante III more than the Centofante IV.
I found flipping the clip to the opposite end allowed a more comfortable carry in the right pocket for a righty. The way the knife comes from the factory the jimping is up and exposed to the hand when reaching in the pocket, swapping ends allows the abrasive jimping down and out of the way.
The one handed open design on the knife works great, opening with a satisfying snap. I have trouble going back to my other knives that require two hands to open, I am now spoiled with a one handed opener.
Give this knife a try.
Nice EDC June 28, 2010 Alex M. Wymore After owning this knife for a week, there is one thing I'm surprised nobody else mentioned in their review. While the silver icon in the handle is attractive, it does not sit flush with with handle (at least no on mine). Whenever I slide my hand into my pocket, that little metal spider scratches my hand.
My only other complaint is with the FRN handle. The quality here is a little less than hoped for. The two sides are not flush on the back of the bottom part of the handle with one side being very slightly higher. That plus the already mentioned icon make the handle a little rougher than it should be.
While it may sound like I am disappointed with the knife, that is really not the case. I love the blade and could shave with it right out of the box. The weight and size are perfect for an EDC, it is is a very good looking knife. I don't think you could find many VG-10 blades for cheaper, yet it does not look cheap at all. While some complained about the height of the ridges on the back of the blade, I actually like that aspect. If it weren't for the couple of issues I mentioned earlier, I would have given it 5 stars.
A handsome EDC'er May 4, 2010 Semprini (utah, United States) Though I wouldn't use this knife for any heavy duty work, it is more than capable for everyday tasks. The weight is superb at only 2.5oz. I will say that the fit and finish of the blade is not what I expected- there was some minor flashing on the FRN handle, and I wish the spine was beveled. The blade is particularly thin (certainly nothing I would want to do any wood chopping with) but don't let that deceive you VG10 is plenty strong and wouldn't have any trouble with slicing. And speaking of slicing- the hollow ground blade is easy to maintain and does slice very well. Holds an edge adequately. The FRN is acceptable but not overly "grippy" and I wont use it in water seeing that not only would the smooth FRN be slick and the construction is riveted (so if I get salt water in there is no way to dry it by disassembly). The clip is adjustable for tip up or down carry- but not ambidextrous. I don't like that the spine of the handle is filled (I prefer pillars, then perhaps, I wouldn't be so cautious around water). for everyday use it is great- thanks Spyderco for not fully lining (unnecessary at this weight and with this intended use). As has been stated it is a particularly handsome knife- my wife calls it my churchin' knife, but keep in mind it is up to most daily tasks for the average citizen. Might I also add that with this weight and intended use the spine lock and heavy jimping seem a little unnecessary but do add to the coolness factor.
A lot of knife for the weight and size May 3, 2010 yogiyoda (FL United States) A three inch blade for a knife that only weighs 2.4 ounces is awesome. The hollow ground geometry on this knife makes it a great slicer. The handle is comfortable and attractive. It's VG-10 steel is attractive, holds an edge well and sharpens fairly easily. The fit and finish on the Japanese made knife are great. The lock back is very sturdy.
Please note that this knife's blade is very thin so it may not take the beating that thicker knives would. But it is still strong enough for light to medium use. Also, because of it's lock back design, it takes a little more force to open than some other knives. But it's still easy enough to open. And the lock back is a little tricky to close one-handed. But with a little practice it's still pretty easy.
So if you want a real work horse; a super fast opener; or a super fast closer - look elsewhere. But if you are just looking for a well-made, attractive, slim, one-hand opening, lightweight knife for light to medium use; you've found your knife.
Great Knife April 15, 2010 Robert E. Wright I love this knife. Great steel excellent for everyday use. It is light enough that I rarely notice it. Love Syderco
