K-BAR Good Hmmmm? September 2, 2010 Wounded paw 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered & it finally came, looks cool....But it is 1095 HCS which means it can break if dropped! Toooo Hard of steel & I find that being hallow ground, that on my blade was not evenly ground causing the thickest part of the blade through the center length of the blade to be uneven creating yet another desighn flaw. Sure it will hold an edge but as for a good utility blade ,NO WAY!if all you want is a crude poorly designed perfectly useless knife,? Buy this one,but I still prefer my old U.S.M.C. model at least it wont break and I've done everything with that blade! Tanto model is garbage compared to the old U.S.M.C Fighting Knife......Seriously! or amazon is selling seconds!!!look at where the thickest part of the spine of the blade from the gaurd stops and the taper spine begins & on the cutting edge where the serrated blade is,Well That "IS" Where it "WILL" Break like glass strait accross. Leavin'Ya With a 1 1/2" serrated rope cutter LOL!Can't drop it, can't throw it, can't dig roots, can't pry with it!
Ka-bar, stick with 1060 1050 HCS or spring steel tempered properly otherwise leave the Japanese to make the tanto their desighn is better by far in beauty workmanship and temper and quite functional, obviously! although a Real tanto was not used for any of those things either Just killing themselves in harikari so Yep it would work for that LOL!even the Japanese could temper crap steel to function properly. for a sport utility knife, Look Real Mean at the Dinner Table cuttin' Steak! LOL, LOL
Best Knife I Own!!! August 26, 2010 Zachary W. Foster (Newport, KY) Ok, I've been a knife fanatic and collector since I was 8. A lot of stuff that I've bought have fallen apart or not lived up to their name. That is not at all the case with this knife. I've wanted a tanto for a long time, and I did my research in what makes a great knife, and this one pulls everything off!
Fresh out of the box, the knife is perfect. At first I thought that the sharpness wasn't sufficient, but after shaving a small patch of hair off my hand, and a deep cut on my thumb, I was so wrong. The knife is sturdy, reliable and sharp as hell! I have already attempted to check its reliablity, I cut through some different materials, and with the softer ones, including a picnic chair, it cut through with hardly even a push of my finger.
Not only is the knife badass, the sheath is also kick ass! I holds the knife perfectly with 2 snaps that hold around the handle, as well as across the front of the grip that connects to the sheath itself. And with the bendable notch lock that still keeps it sheathed simply by placing the knife inside it, you can wear this knife anywhere on your person, and unless you want it taken out, it won't unless you want it to.
No regrets with this knife. I know this is definitly the most tactical utility and combat knife I have in my collection. Aboslutly satisfied!
Sexy knife May 22, 2010 A. Evans (Colorado) This knife is one of the better knives I've bought. The blade material is good, the balance is good, it sharpens well, and it has a 20 degree angle. The construction overall is very good.

Ka bar 1245. great knife May 21, 2010 David Ginn (IL, USA) I received this and I am so excited to have it. I took it out and looked at it just it being a black steel knife makes it look cool. Overall I haven't had any serious jobs for it but I have put it to the test on a few things. This is very sturdy construction. You pick the knife up and you can feel the good construction. The handle it made of some hybrid hard polymer and it is literally molded on there. Some knives that I've had just put the handle on after creating the knife so they come off or become loose .This looks to be molded straight onto the metal. It even sticks out metal burrs i would call them to stabilize the handle so it doesn't slip off or become loose. The backing of the knife is very sturdy and looks like it can withstand a beating and won't shatter on impact. The knife comes pre-sharpened, personally even though sharpened i think it could have been sharper. This one has a serrated edge on it. this also is sharpened but only in one side, so i sharpened it on both. If you need a knife for backpacking I would suggest and wouldn't suggest this. 1 I would suggest this because it can withstand a lot of torture. 2 I wouldn't suggest this because for me backpacking means to be light and this for being a knife isn't all that light. I haven't weighted it but I would say a little less than a pound with sheath and knife. Overall Ka-bar makes great knives and this is one of the best for all around use. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone
SPC "Krazy" May 17, 2010 Joshua C. Krzywicki (Hollister, MO) Ok to start with this knife itself has a 5 star review. What 4 stars is for is for the stupid Ka-bar people for not having any type of straps to go with the knife (none come with the sheath!)
I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan and this irritates me to no end at all that this came with no straps! I had purchased it as a close quarters weapon but lo and behold i can't even use it for that!
I use this knife currently when i perform any type of cooking and it works great! It came fairly sharp and it's strong enough that if i needed to pry anything open i wouldn't have a second thought about using this knife on it. I highly recommend this knife for anyone but for the fact of the straps as i said. This mere fact irks me to no end and the horrible thing is i can't find any for it! If anyone knows ANYPLACE to buy the proper straps then please let me know! The holes are very small and i may just need to go with jimmy rigging it to myself.
