Made in China...Yeah, But an Incredible Knife! A Must Have. August 7, 2010 K MavAZ (Tucson, AZ) Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1BWJTFZBX243 At the price point and reading the fact that it is a replica made in China, I wasn't expecting much. Received the package, opened the two knives that I purchased and can honestly say I was amazed. Scabbard is well built of quality materials. The handle insignia is brightly colored and detailed. The blade has the inscriptions "blut und ehre" (Blood and Honor)prominently displayed as shown in the picture.
The incredible thing is just how heavy this knife is! BEWARE:when taking out the knife exercise extreme caution, this is the sharpest knife "out of the box" that I have purchased. I will be constructing two displays of these in my home with two different German WW2 flags in shadow box frames readily available at any craft store.
If you are looking for a great piece of memorabilia from depicting the Third Reich you can't beat this product for the price. I highly recommend, and believe me, I am an anal buyer!!
Serviceable Reproduction. No more, no less... July 15, 2010 D. Smith (Aurora, Co) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this knife knowing full well it was a cheap reproduction from China. It's fine for display or someone who is into reenactments. However its got some small quibbles that keep it from being 5 stars. I point these out not to criticize but rather to inform, just so you know exactly what it is your getting.
1. The pommel and handguard are nice and shiny but it the metal itself is not polished. That is to say the metal comprising this part of the knife has been plated. This is easily noticeable by slight amount of "bubbling" and flaking on the knife i received.
2. The Hitler Youth slogan "Blut und Ehre" (blood and honor)along the blade is barely visible except under direct light. The original Hitler Youth knives were acid etched and were much darker, the reproductions appear to have been done by a scribing machine and it was done very lightly.
3. The blade itself is not a full tang blade, it's not even a real knife that could be used (no heat treating, unsharpened) so please don't try. There is an edge but it is not sharp. In other words, it's just a piece of metal that has been ground and shaped in to the shape of a knife.
4. The sheath is decent its made of metal and nicely painted black with rubber guide inserts inside. The straps are the weak link however, as they are nothing more than vinyl with some cheap snaps riveted on.
As I said before, other than the "cons" I pointed out this knife looks correct and would be well suited for display purposes. And to be perfectly honest, anyone who has purchased repro knives made in China or India should be used to the things that I have pointed out. If, however, you want the real deal, real Hitler Youth knives can still be found at gun shows and online auctions, but not anywhere near the mint condition that a reproduction will afford you. But it is another route you could go just in case the reproductions don't "float your boat."
For the money I paid and my intended purpose (display), I am happy with the knife.
Beautiful Replica May 21, 2010 john aikman (texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The picture and description portrayed does NOT do this item justice. Very heavy and I can't find any flaws on it except one; "Made in China". Yes I know it is a replica but I wish that wasn't stamped on it. I am very satisfied with this product overall.
Great product minor defects March 25, 2010 Andrew Negrete (cali) This product is suppose to be a "replica" and it fit that description perfectly i really enjoy the knife its great because im a big ww2 buff and i enjoy the history. thus being the sole reason i made this purchase all i have to say is that the blade was a little dirty you can barly read the "blut und ehre"(blood and honor)on the blade and the metal was a little bubbly which i can understand its a "replica" so i expect these things all in all great product looks good and good for any ww2 buff or collector.
HJ Knife May 11, 2009 Pedro I. Mendez Perez (Tijuana BC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I know is a replica and that it is not the same quality or look of the real one, but for the price and availability, you can beat that.
I was surprised that even tough is a replica is still heavy and blunt enough to keep away from unruly hands.
