Excellent knife, great for camping and survival needs July 26, 2010 Daniel B Allee This knife is awesome! If you want a great fixed blade knife that's sharp, holds its edge well and is tough then you can't go wrong with this one.
I have almost gone exclusively to SOG knives in our family as their quality and value are hard to beat. This knife goes with me whether it's a trip to work, a hunt in the woods, camping trip with the family or on an afternoon walk. The nylon sheath has a place for a sharpening stone in which I keep a magnesium fire starter.
The size is great for me. It's not too big or too small. It's just right! The 5" partially serrated blade makes short work of just about any task.
The price may seem a little steep to the knife novice who will see other knives around the $20 range or even less that might seem to be in this knife's category but don't be fooled. You usually get what you pay for but in this case you'll get as much as you would in most knives three times the cost of this one.
Purchase this one and take half-way decent care of it and you'll have a knife that will last a lifetime.
Sog need some changes in their Warranty dept! June 3, 2010 J. Meadows (East Coast USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The knife its self is great, SOg did a great job at putting this knife together but the sheath is a bit trick heres what happen...........
I just recently had and have an issue with SOG. I bought a seal Pup Elite. The knife is fine, great actually but the sheath has issues. There is no sheath tension, the knife will just fall strait out of the sheath. Now this sheath is brand new! Never used, no signs of use. So I emailed Sog [which was my first mistake] about the problem and all they wanted to know was if my sheath was older than 30 days. Well yes it is actually and no I dont have any proof of purchase. Well heres what she said,
Hi Jonathan,
We are truly sorry that is this is the issue. We have a policy in place for a reason as I am sure you understand. I am also truly sorry that you would like to place blame on the warranty administrator who is only doing her job. I didn't get to make policy, I just have to uphold it. Thanks for understanding and have a great day!

This was our second email and I am pissed! I cant believe that Sog would not replace my sheath. We are talking about a $25.00 product and thats retail, imagine what is actually cost them. It would not of been so bad if there PR person would actually try to work with you or maybe practice some sort of manners. It seems to that Linsay forgets that this is their mistake! This is their poor quality control and this sheath should of never been sold. You know I could go on and on about this so let me sum this up, quality control just like there warranty department needs some changes! I think this is a good knife. I just hope you don t have to deal with

If you can avoid her I think you will be ok
j hunter March 21, 2010 J. Hunter (Dolores,CO) I have had my eye on this product for some time. When I recently read a review on this knife I knew it was time to buy. I have other SOG products and was already aware of the quality. Great all around knife for any trip into the wilderness.
A knife for girls or Hobbits February 8, 2010 T. kraemer (Texas) 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
What happens when you design a really spectacular blade and then wrap a tragically bad handle to it? You end up with the SOG seal pup Elite.
The blade on this knife is REALLY robust, robust being TWICE as thick as the blades of most other tactical knives. Its also notched on the top for grip and various survival related functions. (don't make me say woodworking)
Now the fatal flaw. The handle. Its extremely small. If you have large hands, this thing feels like a steak knife at a cheap restaurant. The handle has no hand matching ergonomic shaping whatsoever, so if you have robot claws perhaps you might find this handle works with your servo activated pneumatic clobber hands. However my genetically average evolved human hands failed to find sufficient grip-li-fi-cation with this handle. Yes, "griplification" isn't a real word but George Bush would dig it. And where is the buttcap for smashing or piercing? Its like SOG fired the design team after the blade was done and asked the neighborhood kids to come in and finish the design.
The sheath is workable, but I think you will really appreciate the Kydex sheath which is slightly more but definitely worth it.
Good Utility Knife December 21, 2009 Anton V. Marchuk (New York, NY USA) Very good blade quality; however, the handle is a bit cheap (plastic) for the money.
