Great Value for Bowie Knife August 13, 2010 Maui Joe (Hawaii) Excellent value, very durable and well built. Thick gauge and very sharp right out off the box. It's quite heavy but knew that before buying. Will use for pig sticking here in Maui. Get it and you won't be dissapionted!
A decent knife... July 17, 2010 Roger (USA) I haven't really used the knife yet...but I do like how it is made and how it looks. The "wood", brass, and SS go together. Seems to be substantially made...with no major gaps or poor fitting surfaces.
The sheath is well made and with the hard plastic liner in it...the knife should be safe to carry on a hike...and not cut the sheath. In fact without the sheath...the knife wouldn't be that useful at all. It might need a leg tie at the bottom though? At least if I fall...it won't go through something vital.
Since it's NOT a pocket knife...practical use will be limited to camping and hiking in more remote areas....where it could be used as a machete...or for protection.
Have done a first sharpening on this knife and found that the edge is sharpened at 20* from the plane next to the edge...maybe 30* from the plane near the back of the blade. Sharpened up real well...now need to take care with this small sword.
Buy it if you don't plan to use it June 16, 2010 Alexandr Sharipoff 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this knife and received it about a week ago. I went camping this last weekend and used it like I do with my other knifes. At first it seemed to hold up and stay fairly sharp. then the blade snapped by the handle into 4 pieces. I abuse my knife when I test them. I had cheaper knifes hold up better than this one. If you want a real survival knife that will hold up for whatever your purpose is than this is not the knife buy. It holds up better on looks than actually using it. I'll stick to my K-Bar over this any day.
Spectacular April 20, 2010 Allison Azzilonna 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This knife is amazing, when it arrived I carefully inpected the blade and the sheath. Here is what I think of the sheath, the inside of the sheath is laced with a strong plastic to prevent damage to the knife and sheath.
The blade is very sharp nad the knife is very durable. The blade alone measures to 9.5 inches, and the entire knife is measured to 13 inches. A spectacular knife and a recommended purchase
Not the quality you'd expect from this name April 16, 2010 T. Dascoli (Staten Island, N.Y.) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recieved mine today. I'm (a bit) dissapointed with the quality of the handle and the sheath. The sheath is pretty cheaply made, but usefull. The handle feels more like hard plastic than wood and there is a small gap where the 2 handle halves meet, or are supoosed to. The brass rivets that hold the handle on are not seated quite flush to the handle and are actually a little sharp around the edges. This is just plain ole' sloppy workmanship. The blade however seems very heavy duty and is VERY SHARP! The only complaint about it is that it isn't polished very well. This would be a gorgeous knife if the blade had a mirror finish. But, if you were going to use it out in the woods, it wouldn't stay shinny very long. I think overall it would be a pretty strong, reliable knife. It's a medium sized Bowie. But it is still pretty impressive. Frankly, I think a knife any larger would be impressive to see, but maybe a bit awkward and clumsy to use. Unless, of course, you were at the Alamo.
Three stars are based soley on shoddy workmanship on the handle and rivets, not the functionality or strength of the knife in general. If I lost it, I'd buy another one. For under 30 bucks it's not that bad. Just please, polish down the rivets at least for crying out loud!
